It was not the best time of the day to be stood outside, wearing such little, the day had not yet come and there was still a chill in the air but it was still quiet. The day had not yet started in this part of the city but yet in the distance the keen eyes of Lexa could see the ever present strings of speeders, moving slowly, a stream of light against the open backdrop of neon signs and notices. It was hard not to become entirely entranced by the movement. This was one of her favourite places to be, outside her own home world of course. It might have been the stark contrast between the rolling Plaines of her youth, and the towering buildings of this world. She had been intimidated at first, on her first trip here, but eventually she actually found herself liking it: The multiculturalism, the new sights and smells, simply a fantastic new world. Lexa had been a Senator for many years now, and often found herself travelling, here or many of the other planets that filled this part of the Galaxy. She had visited many places, seen many worlds, but not one of them felt the same way to her.

Stood upon the balcony of her high-rise senatorial apartment in the heart of Coruscant, Senator Lexa Adorn took in a deep breath. She turned towards the door to address the figure that had allowed himself access just a few minuets ago. Her nightdress, a simple gown of pure white fluttered around her bear ankles for a moment, catching the momentum of her turn. Blonde locks surrounded her face, left long and free. One of her helpers had come out and exclaimed that she would catch a chill. Lexa had only smiled and taken the mug of warm Caff handed to her. Sleep had been long to come that night, and had not lasted long. It was not that she was anxious at all, she had no issues with these missions, but for some reason she found it tough to relax the night before. In the end she had given up on a bad job and sat at her desk. She had then decided to clear her head, and so found herself on the balcony staring at the distant lights. The senator took a moment to shiver against the bitterness of the morning air, and then pull the dark green wrap around her shoulders a little bit tighter.

Lodo, her Chief of Security stood before the open door. She had not heard him enter the apartment and was supprised to see him about this early; she had certainly not impressed any need for such an early arrival. Lodo had been with Lexa almost as long as she had been Senator. He had served under ruling Senator for many a year, seeing them come and go. Lexa had hired him for his experience, and had never regretted the decision, not even once.

“I have arranged some additional Security for your journey, Senator” Lodo spoke to her from his position by the door.

“Additional Security?” Lexa quizzed of him, with a look of supprise.

“I have contacted the Jedi Order; they are to send an escort.” He replied, very simply.

Lexa was taken aback. She had received the intelligence report and there was some danger to herself in visiting that area of space. Reports showed recent Empire activity in a nearby system. The Empire would be pleased to capture anyone affiliated with the New Republic, but a Senator would be a prize catch. There were also rumours about the presence of a Sith, which Lexa knew painfully little about. The Jedi were complicated enough, without the addiction of the Dark side. She had read a bit on them, pretty much the basics of how they differed to the Order. She knew it was risky, and he knew it was too, but he had always considered himself enough protection for her so what had changed? Lexa took a moment to look at him. He was a proud man in statue, tall and sturdy, but grey peppered his hair, and his face was lined with the care of age. Perhaps he was worried that the passing of years would now be a detriment to his role as her guard? It might be so, but she knew that would not stop him, he was just too stubborn. However it puzzled her that he had enlisted additional help. It offended her that he had not approached her on the idea, preferring to make the arrangements behind her back.

Lodo knew that his Lady would not agree to the extra presence. She was young and showed somewhat of the Naivety that walked hand in hand with her lack of years. She was never the one to crave the spotlight, and would hate the additional fuss and attention that the appointment of a Jedi guardian would bring. He was not willing to risk the recent reports and rumours turning into truth. He was just one man, and one man would not be enough. He would feel and ease knowing that they had a strong being with them, and a Jedi sure fitted that need.

“I don’t see the need to involve them and I don’t see the need for all this fuss” Lexa said back to him predictably, with a note of displeasure in her voice. As she moved a few steps closer to him

Although she had in the past stood in favour of Jedi presence, she could never feel totally comfortable with them. They were just too much of a mystery, too guarded. No one outside of the Order truly knew what they did in their own grounds, truly what their plans for the futures were. The Jedi had a long history in the Galaxy, and had been involved in a long succession of conflicts and wars. Lexa had a hard time believing and trusting in something they knew so little about. Who really knew what their agenda was? Lexa had been in the presence of Jedi Master Skywalker and found him to be an engaging and delightful person, but there was still something she could not quite trust.

Now it seemed that she would be spending some time with a member of the Order. Perhaps she could use the travelling time to engage the Jedi in conversation, try to gain a greater understanding of what the Jedi truly stood for. She could feel too enthusiastic though, although she thought perhaps she should. It would all depend on whom they sent to her and what that particular Jedi thought of the assignment. She found herself wondering who might actually be sent to her, male or female, Human or alien? There were simply endless possibilities. What’s more, she also wondered briefly why they would agree to this. Jedi were peacekeepers by nature, this she knew, but they were not soldiers and they were not bodyguards. They could have further interest in the area and could be using the mission as a screen for a different purpose. Lexa would not let herself be used in that way, no, never.

“Lexa, please…” Lodo began, but she cut him off softly.

“We have been friends for many years now and I trust your judgement. I just wish you had consulted me about this first” She added.

“Your safety is my only concern my lady. Please, you must trust me on this.” He replied, fixing her with cool grey eyes.

“At the least it will make me feel better, and best the Jedi will turn out to be an asset to us for the duration of the trip. Please forgive me, but I knew that you would not agree to this lightly” He said quickly, appealing to the better nature he knew she possessed in great quantity.

Lexa sighed in resignation, giving into his silent demand.

“Okay. I guess it won’t hurt to have a little extra company. Just please consult me on such decisions in the future.” With that she turned again and continued to look out onto the world. It really was a strange place.

A few hours later, when the sun had truly arisen, Lexa and her maids had arrived at the Senate building and were in Lexa’s private office. Each senator had such a room, almost an apartment, made up on several rooms. They were free to use these as they saw fit, from spending the night to holding personal meeting. She mostly used hers as a ready room, to prepare for meetings, or waiting for company as now.

Lexa was sat at a familiar desk, in the largest of the rooms given to her in the suite. It was circular, with a roomy desk at the centre. As rooms went it was very plain, with scarcely little more decoration than a few leafy plants. Lexa liked plants, she had grown up on a farm and a home was not a home without a touch of green. A few plants helped her relax and she felt more at ease knowing that they provided a steady amount of fresh oxygen. The walls of the room were of a light cream, surrounded in the center with a light brown boarder. A few odd possessions lay around, framed images of her family, a crystal vase. None of it was of any special value to her; she did not leave much here, as she spent generally very little of her time here, preferring her home or her apartment in the upper levels of Coruscant.

Upon her desk, she shuffled through a folder of paperwork. It was all that she needed for the mission at hand, and she was checking for about the forth time that she had it all. They were due to leave soon, and she wanted to make sure that she was completely prepared. As soon as the escort arrived, she intended fully to leave at once.

The Senator had dressed immediately on arrival, before setting herself down upon a chair. She had tied her blonde lock safely but comfortably behind her head so that she could see her work. She had wanted to look smart of course, but comfortable for travel none the less. After some thought, she had settled on a top of light black material, and a simple pair of trousers. A simple chain of silver adorned her neck and was the only piece of jewellery she wore.

Her people buzzed around her silently, arranging and packing their own possessions, as well as preparing Lexa’s own belongings for the journey. Several of her own outfits would be making the trip with them, casual suits and jackets, as well as formal dresses and gowns. She was not yet sure what she was in for, but was to be ready for all occasions.

Before he left her that morning, Lodo had told her to expect the Jedi in a timely manner. He himself would be arriving at roughly the same time, as he had a few preparations of his own to make before they left. Lexa looked at the time and noted that the Jedi was due to arrive. She finished off checking the papers and safely showed them away before picking herself up from her chair and smoothing out her clothing.

Just like clockwork, the door announced the arrival of a visitor with the usual acoustic hum. Lexa strode forward to open it, allowing her people to carry on with their duties. She found herself almost curious to see what awaited her on the other side. The door slid open silently and Lexa was happy with what was presented before her.

They had sent a human female, which Lexa was happy about. The newcomer was obviously sent from the Order, but at the same time there was something slightly odd about the appearance of the woman. She was dressed in something approaching the standard attire of the Jedi, which Lexa had seen on many occasions, but whereas most sported loosely fitting robes, this Jedi’s outfit was closer fitting, showing off her body shape. She was also wearing heels, something that Lexa had never seen in a Jedi before. In addition to this, the Jedi hair and make up was immaculate.

Lexa did not left any of this faze her of course, and with her usual unflappable nature, she allowed a bright smile and opened her body language, allowing the Jedi the room to enter her apartment. She held out a hand and introduced herself.

“I’m Lexa Adorn” She said clearly, choosing her full name over a more formal senatorial introduction.

“I’m happy that you are going to come along, what may I call you?” She would be happy to address the Jedi in whatever means the woman saw fit.
